“Great Dane” – Original Oil on Panel Signed (Mid-R) W Barraud (1810-1850)

This striking painting of a Great Dane (showing how the breed has changed over the years) was painted by the London-born William Barraud, the well-known animal painter; it is presented in a later swept gilt framing with a title plate. Dated 1847.

William Barraud collaborated on many works with his brother Henry, but was perhaps the better horse painter of the two, although both were very good; of the pictures he painted alone, most were of animals, which were of very high quality and of great charm.
