Annie Williams grew up in South Wales. She trained and worked at Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital before studying at City and Guilds Art School London. She now lives in Islington, North London, where many of her paintings are set. Watercolour and Etching are her preferred media as she enjoys the challenge of colour, pattern, light and composition. Recently her work has become smaller, often domestic and very personal. She says that arranging her subject is perhaps the most crucial part and then, if she is happy at the start, she is in with a chance of creating, she hopes, a work of art. She is an elected member of the Royal Society of British Artists (RBA), Royal Watercolour Society (RWS) and Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers (RE) and has won many awards, including the 2009 Turner Watercolour Award. Other awards include a travel scholarship to Florence, The Artist Magazine Award at the Mall Galleries, and various awards from the RWS open exhibition 21st Century Watercolour. She has had one-woman shows at the Baker Tilly Gallery, Grape Lane Gallery and Warwick University. Her work has been included in many publications and open exhibitions, including the Royal Watercolour Society (RWS) and Royal Academy (RA). It is often found on greetings cards and as limited edition prints. In more recent times Annie has taken to working in an abstract style. Provenance: This lovely watercolour was acquired originally directly from Annie Williams via her framer at that time, and it is presented in a contemporary mount with a wood frame.
