“Cockerel Costume Design Sketch – Folies Bergère”
Signed Dany (191?-1937)
C. 1930-34

Dany L Barry was a French costume designer working at the Folies Bergère from 1930 to 1934 and then at the Concert Mayol (a theatre similar to the Folies). He took inspiration from Gesnar and Zig (both prominent cabaret costume designers). Unfortunately his success was short-lived. He died in his twenties on return from his National Service. There is sketch on the verso of the image together with, we presume, the reference number of the sketch. It is presented in a recent framing.
